Basement Gets A Fresh Coat of Thunder by Benjamin Moore while we are in a ThunderSTORM of our own!!

Do you ever wake up in the morning and just know your going to have a great day?  I had that thought for a brief minute until I got out of bed, lol.

Part 1:
Devastation ensued when my daughter decided that her pinky toe doesn't look like she wants it to and it annoys her in her sock.  Insert over sized meltdown here.

After I got her on the bus, I was excited to head back to the house since things were getting done at my house today.  My dad is building two bookshelf side tables for my daughter's room, Dustin is painting the basement, and I am working on design boards.  It is rare that we are at the house together on work days, so we wanted to get a lot done.

Insert second situation here.

Part 2:
Dustin was moving stuff in the basement to prep the walls and somehow managed to cut three fingers open.

I love how someone else gets hurt and all I have to do is see blood and suddenly I'm the patient.

I recovered quick and did manage to bandage up his fingers, so I was feeling mighty good.   UNTIL...

Part 3:
I decided to go down to the basement and take before pics with my camera.  Somehow I managed to step on the back of my pant leg, fall halfway down the stairs, and put a huge bruise on my hip. NICE!

So the motto of my story is wake up thinking your day is gonna be crappy and it will only go up from there, lol.

Nah, I know the day will turn around.  It is only 10:30 A.M. for crying OUT LOUD!

Why I'm really excited to see the basement painted is that we have lived in this house over 3 years and it still has the builder beige paint color on the walls throughout the upstairs and in the basement.

Here is the before photos I took this morning...

Nasty builder beige!

I have scoped out various shades of beigy grays or gray beiges before I landed on the color Thunder AF-685 by Benjamin Moore as the choice.

Here are a few of the inspiration pics that caught my eye with this great color...

The other exciting thing is that since I currently don't have any extra time to work on my own house, my dad has offered was gently persuaded to not only build units in my daughter's room, but with the help of my mum, they are also going to put together a fabric covered bed frame and headboard to finish off the space.

So it is 11:13 A.M. now and the house is calm.

A fresh pot of coffee is brewing for the Guys and Ibuprofen is my new best friend. Dustin is in the basement painting, my dad is in the garage working on the units, and I am no where near a staircase.  Fingers crossed that the peacefulness will continue the rest of the day.

Shades of Gray and CB2 lighting!

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet with clients in regards to their home that they recently purchased.  They are looking for a completely different design and feel than what they have been used to the past 20 years.  So, now instead of a lodge style home, they are hoping to transition this home into something more Zen.  A place where they can relax and meditate.

So this morning, I sent over some color choices for the Open Concept Living and Dining Room...

I am going to be using Thunder by Benjamin Moore in some areas of our home and it seems to be a shade that I just gravitate too.  So I may be a smidgen biased ;-)

I recently used Requisite Gray by Sherwin Williams in a client's formal living room and it is a gorgeous shade of gray.

All of the grays I chose fall under the Griege (Gray Beige) category to bring warmth and peace to the space.

Once the clients decide on what shade of gray they gravitate towards, the living room/dining room area will get a fresh new paint job.

For the Living and Dining space there is a floor to ceiling fireplace in the middle of the room that separates the areas.  One side will be the dining room and the other will be the living/meditation area.  The room has tons of natural light coming in from all of the windows and sliding glass doors along the back wall.

Here are some of the BEFORE of the Home...

I am considering bringing in an over sized wall decal of trees in a tone on tone color for this left wall.

This is the dining room side.

Another shot of the dining room looking on to a sun room.  All of the furniture including curtains will be replaced with something more clean lines and zen or spa like.

So, this evening I will be meeting with the client and electrician to come up with lighting options since both rooms are completely void of any type of lighting.  To me, lighting is so important in evoking the mood you want in a space.

A couple lighting options that I am considering are...
FireflyPendantF9

2 of these firefly pendant lighting sets from CB2 to hang down the center of the table.

Or Option #2

NoirPendantS12
Also from CB2 is this Noir Pendant.  If this is the option the clients go with, I am hoping to add two of these over the dining table.

This week, I am working on the Design Board Package for the Living/Dining Room Combo and hope to share that with you soon!

Have a great rest of the day!

The Paint Colors of My House

I decided to see what some of the new color choices I picked for painting would look like next to my current paint colors, so I put together a paint palette for my home.  I mixed in some different shades of gray or greige to add some depth to different areas in the house.

I am pretty excited about adding the warmer gray tones throughout!  After looking at all of the colors together, I think they will be very well matched with my existing shades of turquoise.

First Row (left to rt.):  Quietude by Sherwin Williams & Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams
Middle Row (left to rt): Tidewater by Sherwin Williams & Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams
Last Row (left to rt): Thunder by Benjamin Moore & Escarpment by Benjamin Moore
Here is what some of the colors look like in my home...

QUIETUDE BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

RAINWASHED BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

TIDEWATER BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS
The colors that are not in the house as of yet, but will be coming in room by room is Repose Gray for the Kids Bathroom and Possibly the basement.
I just finished painting my mum and dad's dining room in Repose Gray and I love the results, so I am definitely adding that to the kids bathroom walls.

My husband painting the trim above the Repose Gray wall in my parent's home.

One of the color choices I just came across that I am STRONGLY considering for the office is...

ENSCARPMENT BY BENJAMIN MOORE

I have been so in to warm grays lately and I really think I could get a lot of work done in an office painted in this color.

Not to mention, as I was just putting this picture on my blog, I noticed that their kitchen banquette table resembles the white desk that I am putting in the office.  It's a sign that the office is supposed to be this color ;-)
Here is another beautiful room transformation painted in Escarpment...
I have also narrowed down the color for the hallways and up the staircase and hallway upstairs...
THUNDER BY BENJAMIN MOORE

Here's another photo of Thunder...
I know I am supposed to be focusing on the wall color, but look at the ceiling!!!  It would  be so neat to look up and see that!
After seeing what some of my choices look like in these Inspirational Photos, I can't wait to get started painting!
