Son's Soccer Room

Well, I thought I would share with you today the FIRST room in the house that we finished.  My son was very BIG into soccer when we did this room!  Since we completed the room he has already come up with new themes.  Last month was a LEGO themed bedroom.  This month was a NASA themed room.  How about we just stick with the Soccer room for a bit!

This is my son's room when we got started.

A shot of my hubby working hard on painting the ceiling.  When we moved in, the entire house, ceilings included, where painted a cream color.  So for each room we paint, we paint the ceilings white to make the walls pop more.

Our next step was to paint the walls.  I wanted to paint my son's room a color that
would transition with FUTURE themes!  We decided to go with Adrift by Sherwin
Williams.  It has a really nice gray undertone.

Now we're talking!  I love the difference a fresh coat of paint makes.

After two coats of paint we just had the top trim to finish and the frame out of the windows.  It just feels so fresh and lively now!

I know the shot is horribly BRIGHT with light coming through the window, but I wanted to show the difference that trim work can make on a basic builder grade finished window.  From the window on the left that hasn't been trimmed out to the window on the right that has been trimmed, but still needs the sill finished off.  I think it makes such a nice impact on the room!

After the trim work had been put in, it was time to bring in the furniture and the accessories.  MY FAVORITE PART!!!

                                                                       AFTER
I decided to go with a black and white striped bedspread to give the feel of a referee jersey.    Then we went with red as the accent color since so many of the pics that we chose had red in it.

I ordered the soccer player chalkboard decal and the name decal was quite large, so instead of placing the name decal with the soccer player I thought it would fit nicely on the door.  The desk is a great spot to do homework.  To personalize the room, I also found some old photos of my son's grandad from when he was on soccer teams in England.  I love being able to see them out on his shelves.

On this side of the room, I placed a different soccer portrait and then above the dresser, I framed out a piece of artwork I purchased on Art.com into a glass floating frame.  I picked up the red tub at Target, in the section where you find drink coolers.  I thought it would work great as a laundry basket.

I ordered a chalkboard wall decal with my son's soccer number on it, just to make it more specific to him.  I took his team jerseys from the past two seasons and displayed them in shadow boxes.
