Sunburst Mirror Turned Cork Board

Here is the recent cork board I created for a client's master bedroom...

But it didn't actually start out that way.

When I was working on a recent client's master bedroom, I was on the look out for a sunburst mirror to go above the desk area.  Well, I found one for a steal, but there was a flaw all along the edge of the mirror, so I had an idea...

I cut a perfect circle out of cardboard and taped it down to the mirror.  Then I took a can of black spray paint and did several coats of black paint and then I held my breath while I peeled off the cardboard and AHHHH!

Not so pretty!

It might not look that bad in this photo, but trust me, it was Bad!!!  The edge was all uneven.  I knew it wouldn't do, but I had one other idea that I thought would work.  So, I pulled out my roll of cork, an Exacto knife, some material, a staple gun, and some adhesive spray.

Then using the mirror as a template, I cut a circle out of the cork, used some spray adhesive to attach the material.

Then I stapled the material down to the cork.

 And stapled and stapled...

I did away with the mirror all together since the cork board was so thick, I didn't need to add it back in.

So, then I just flipped the cork over and fit it in the metal frame.  There was a little screw on the top so I just tightened it in.

And viola...

A nice and usable piece of art :)
