Global Sun room Design Board

Working with clients to transform their homes is definitely the most exciting job I can ask for!  It allows me to channel all of my creativity into one space and bring the ideas that rattle around my head to life.  I have been dying to create this design board! Just a fun relaxing space.  It was music to my ears when my client said, "maybe we can do some insect art in the space."  You may be thinking gross, but I was thinking "PERFECT."

For me, adding fun or interesting touches brings a space from pretty or cozy to really Unique.

Here is the Design Board I created for Jen's Sun room...

I decided to go with a Navy and Orange color scheme because the adjoining family room is Navy and we are bringing in orange accents for that area, so it only seemed a natural fit to continue the color in here.

Let's take a closer look at some of the pieces...

Urban Home Natural Banana Core Ottoman

Liberty Furniture 139-BK202 Farmhouse Casual Dining Leaning Bookcase Traditional Furniture

'Pinebrook' Natural Pine Rectangular End Table

Hampton Barrel Side Table

Threshold™ Rope Print Decorative Pillow - Orange
I found some great pieces to keep the space airy yet masculine.

When we first went into this space, my client had shared that this was the room that her husband and dog hung out in.  The ONE place that the dog was allowed up on the couch.  So they had bonding time just relaxing in there. And the couch that was in there, Well...

As Jen put it, "It has to go."  Her hubby thought it was so comfy, so that was his one criteria for the new sofa.

Before I share the Before photos I took of the space, let me mention, that this room has SO MUCH character to begin with.  All the windows, the trim work, the archway, the brick wall.  I mean it's ridiculous how cool and swanky this space is even before the furnishings and accessories come in. Not to mention the color on the walls that we are keeping is my favorite!  I am biased though, my house is pretty much the same color ;-)

Here a some of the Before's of the Space...

There you are comfy, slouchy couch who can't even hold on to your cushion so you just toss him on the floor.  So sad :(   It is time for you to move on!

A tripod floor lamp that we will be keeping in the space.

The brick work is amazing and the little archways with the railings inside are AWESOME!  I could totally see myself here as a kid playing a princess in a castle or a bank teller through the arch there.  Come on didn't we all play bank teller as a kid?

The ladder bookshelf will go on the right hand side of this wall, while the insect artwork goes on the left hand side of the wall.

We may have to hold on to the globe for the bookshelf, after all we are trying to keep a Global feel, get it!  No?  I am so punny?  ;-)

It's late as I right this post so it may just be one of those moments that I think I'm hilarious, when actually I'm overtired.

I love love the archway and the doors and windows!  So pretty!

And here again is the beginning stage of transformation...

I can't wait to see this one come to life!

Movie Theater Basement Design

It's a dream of ours to have a movie room in our basement.  We have a storage room off the basement that Dustin wants to turn into a movie room.  Every time, and I mean EVERY time, we watch a movie in the larger part of the basement, my husband says "Can't wait till we can sit in the movie room."  Ahh, One day!

Well for now, I get to live vicariously through my most recent design project.  A MOVIE THEMED BASEMENT!

I was contacted by my client to turn her basement into a comfortable space where her family could relax, watch movies, and play games.

Here is the design I came up with for Jennifer, her hubby, and their two daughters...

My favorite piece that I came across has to be the director's light.  I found this one on line.  Since I get the opportunity to do this basement install along with creating the Design Board Package, I was able to shop around for pieces for the room and came across this exact one for almost half the price online!!  Yay!

Another neat find is this abstract artwork on canvas.  One is kinda cool, but when you put three together like in the Design Board above, to me it looks like what you see going across the screen when the movie reel is finished.  That may just be me though ;-)

Red Liberated 20" x 60" Printed Canvas
To soften and lighten up the sofa, I chose a couple toss pillows...

CC Home Furnishings 18" White "Life Is Beauty Full" Decorative Down Throw Pillow

This one has a cute message.

Nate Berkus™ Geometric Toss Pillow - Gray (18x18")
The other for it's bold geometric pattern and color.

No Movie Room would be complete without movie reels or hot fresh popcorn...
$179.oo Ryan's entertainment rm- Ballard Designs Film Reel Plaques - Set of 3

These are just some of the items going in the space.  Other items will include a new reclaimed wood mantel for the fireplace and new rug like this one below...

Rugs USA Aperto Outdoor Moroccan Lattice Grey Rug

Here are a couple of the before pictures of the room...

The red sofa and ottoman will be staying.  The curtains will be replaced with new velvet gray floor to ceiling blackout drapes.

On each side of the fireplace will be low bookshelves.   To go above the bookshelf will be over-sized framed black and white movie posters like this one of Marilyn Monroe...

So am I excited to do this install?  Yessireee!!!

Can't wait to share with you all of the before's and after's...

Have a great rest of the day!

Dining and Living Room Transformation

I hope you had a great weekend!  Is it just me or is summer flying by for you?  It's seriously the middle of July and I feel like the kids just got out for summer break yesterday.  This coming week is a mix of things for us.  We are finishing up painting a client's home and installing the finishing touches on Friday.  The kiddos bathroom is just about complete. FINALLY!!!

So to finish things off my daughter and I are going to have a little fun painting today and I am going to do two pieces of artwork for the bathroom.  I am hoping to share pics later this week on the DIY Artwork and Bathroom Makeover.

For the Design Board side of things, I completed the last portion of a first floor home makeover that I am excited to share today.

I have been working with Anna for several months now, helping her transition her home into something she truly enjoys coming home to.  Anna wanted the living room/dining room side of the house to be a little more of an adult space.  She wanted it to be simple yet classy.  This is the Design Package I created for her...

Living Room Space

Dining Room Space

I always have a lot of fun putting together design packages, but this one turned out to be one of my top favorites.  I think maybe because of the color combination and feel of the different wood finishes that make it feel like such a warm place to be.

The great thing about her design is that it is a low budget makeover.

Here's a little look at some of the pieces that I chose for the dining and living room space...

Sawyer 1-Light Pendant

The wall art for the dining room...

Antique Resin Tile Wall Sculpture - Distressed

And the wall art for the living room...

Leaf Burst Wall Sculpture
Three of these guys will go over the sofa.

I also love the pillows for the space!

Throw Pillow Cover. Decorative Throw Pillows. 18x18 pillow covers. Tan Ikat Pillow ONE 18x18 printed fabric on front and back

Decorative Pillow- 20x20 Purple Pillow- Lavendar pillow, Cream Pillow, Geometric Pillow

Here are a few of the wood finishes that I think go well together...

A coffee brown side table that will add a little funkiness to the living room area.

A really lovely two toned brown sideboard to store all the dishware for the dining room.

white dining table

And to finish the space off, I suggested that Anna paint her existing dining table in white.

Threshold™ Slipper Chair - Yellow/White Trellis

Two of these golden yellow patterned chairs will add extra seating to the space while also bringing in a nice geometric pattern.

So how will all this furniture and accessories be arranged?

Here is the Room Layout that I think will best suite the space...

And here are both Design Boards again...

Hope you enjoyed this weeks Design Board Package.
